Have you ever asked, “How can I repair my credit report”?  If so, we are here to show you how.  To go through the process where you can “repair my credit report”, you need to start by feeling confident in you and the process.  You also need to understand that you deserve to have good credit just like anyone else.  Even if you made mistakes and found yourself overspending or paying late, it is never too late to make appropriate changes.

Now when you ask, “Can I repair my credit report” you need to know that you can!  Think of it this way, of all the people the United States, there are millions who have blemishes of some degree on their credit report.  Therefore, you are not alone.  The key to cleaning up a credit report is knowing what to look for, questions to ask, and ways to file disputes.  After all, not everything listed can be removed so you need know what things can and cannot be changed.

As an example, if you have ever filed for bankruptcy, you can feel confident that for the next 10 years, that is going to show up.  However, if your credit report has omissions, possibly good credit not being reported, or inaccuracies, accounts showing you past due when in fact, you are current, and then those items would be among the ones that can be changed to improve your credit score.

To get started on your journey to “repair my credit history”, we want to provide you with a simple, yet powerful strategy for success.  First, you need to obtain a copy of your credit report from all three reporting agencies, which includes Equifax, Experian, and TransUnion.  Then, once received, you need to go over every item to check for errors.  Then, make a list of all the items you find questionable or negative.  Make a copy of the credit report, highlight, or encircle the items on the copy.

Next, you will file a dispute letter to the credit bureau, creditor, or collection agency associated with the discrepancy.  For letters going to a credit bureau, make sure the letter is 100 words or less and to the point or it will not even be read.  The letter should be sent registered mail or certified, with a return receipt requested.  Include with the letter any documentation showing proof of your case.

By law, the credit bureau has up to 30 days in which to respond to you and up to 60 days to investigate your claims.  Therefore, as you work with the “repair my credit history” process, you need to be patient and allow them adequate time as provided by law to take action.  Once they have finished, they will send you a letter of items changed and/or a copy of the updated report.  When you receive this copy, go over it again.  If you find more errors, file a new dispute.

The truth is that you may have to file a dispute and re-review your credit report two, three, possibly four times until all the items are settled.  Just remember that sometimes, if the credit bureau were unable to verify something you claimed to be wrong, they may take it off during the investigation process.  Therefore, you may receive a credit report with a substantially improved score but then in 20 days, receive a new credit report with a somewhat lower score.  This is normal process, which is why you want to keep going until you are satisfied that everything that could be added, removed, or changed was.

One of the most important aspects of your journey to “repair my credit report” is to analyze the credit report very carefully.  Many times, there could be negative listings for medical bills that have long been paid off.  It could be that something is on your report not even belonging to you.  Remember, you do not have to rush through the process.  Take your time to catch everything upfront for the best results.
