Bad Credit Repair

 By Erik A. Olsen

Have you just gone through a divorce and find yourself in need of bad credit repair?  If so, you are among hundreds of thousands of other people in this same situation.  One of the most frustrating aspects is when it comes time to buy your own home but with bad credit, hanging over your head it makes the process near impossible.  The good news is that today, you will find a number of mortgage lenders with programs designed specifically for people just like you.  This “divorcee mortgage” is specially designed for divorced individuals who are financially dependent on an ex-spouse.

In this case, the divorcee mortgage is developed by a specialist mortgage broker, enabling those regular maintenance payments to be used for obtaining a home of your own.  More and more, lenders are realizing that divorced people are often faced with bad credit repair, meaning the miss opportunities that other people get.  With this, a growing number of banks and building societies are beginning to draw divorced people into options for buying a home.

Think of it this way, more than eight million people, which is one out of every four adults have trouble obtaining credit from high street banks and other lenders.  For some, the main problem goes back to the issue with bad credit repair and for others, high court judgments.  The sad thing, many of these people enjoyed perfect credit prior to the divorce but now have been knocked down, no longer able to enjoy financial freedom.

Another problem is that with bad credit repair looming overhead, they find purchasing a home and reestablishing life hard.  Regardless of the reason, you need to remember that more and more options are available so you can buy a home, not being penalized for the difficult situation of divorce.  We also see a problem with people going through bad credit repair being increasingly checked for credit status by larger lenders.  Unfortunately, when the applicant fails to meet the required FICO score, a computer generated rejection letter is sent.

When going through bad credit repair, shopping around for a mortgage is especially important.  However, just because one bank or financial institution rejected you, does not mean you have reached the end of possibilities.  Again, with many programs being developed specifically to home buying for divorcees, bad credit does not necessarily have to keep you imprisoned.  Keep in mind that if you are declined for a mortgage loan, we strongly recommend you not go around and randomly apply for one loan after another.  Obviously, this will look bad on your credit report.  Therefore, when going through bad credit repair, you want to locate the appropriate lenders with programs specific for divorced people.

The interesting thing about bad credit repair and divorce is that many people are shocked to find credit assigned to the ex-spouse showing up on their credit report.  Therefore, you might be denied a mortgage loan or any loan because of something negative associated with the ex-wife or ex-husband, not you.  Because of this, you will need to obtain a copy of your credit report from all three credit bureaus, making sure that only your credit appears.  Now, if your ex-spouse has positive credit, you could use it to your advantage but keep in mind that if he or she were to miss a payment or default in any way, it would also reflect on your report.

Divorce is a difficult situation for everyone, with the majority of people resulting in some level of bad credit repair.  However, as stated, you have new options for securing a mortgage loan, and you can order your credit report to ensure you are not being declined for the wrong reasons.  In other words, divorce and bad credit does not have to be the end of the world.  With a little research and choosing your options carefully, you can move forward in life to enjoy that house or car.
